Here we grow!

A few weeks ago we planted some broccoli seeds.  They have sprouted and we transplanted them into our garden yesterday!
Lillian's Nana gave her a sunflower seed starter kit, and we planted them too.  We added them to our garden also.
Nana gave Anthony a pumpkin seed starter kit.  We are excited to find out what kind of pumpkins will grow...pie pumpkins, jack-o-lantern....
Here are the seeds that we planted in the garden.
We were practicing our printing before we started planting.  This goes with my gardening plans for the summer.  I am hoping to use the garden as a tool to help with math and writing this summer to help the children prepare for kindergarten or expand on the skills they learned this school year.
Thought I should take a few pictures before we got started.

Anthony helped me out with taking the photos.  It would have been impossible for me to get photos while we were planting tiny carrot and lettuce seeds.
Thanks, Anthony... I made it to the blog!  It's supposed to show you Bronwynn planting, but the finger almost covered her:)
I forgot to take pictures of Lillian and Anthony planting, so I got some of them watering!

Here is a glimpse of our completed garden.  Hope to be posting many more pictures soon as we watch our plants grow...

Modelling Clay

How many of you have read Barbara Reid books?  I can spend a lot of time looking at her illustrations using modelling clay.  The detail she uses is incredible.  Here is a page in one of her books.  Anthony decided to try his hand at modelling clay and made many farm animals you will see below.

GOOP!

The children are ready to make goop, obligook, gak.... there are many names for it.  It is water and cornstarch.
Oden is not interested in the goop.  He loves to sit at this desk.
                                                              Oh, what messy fun!
The children were intrigued.  It is like a solid when you try to pick it up, then it turns to a liquid and runs through your fingers.  Neat!
                                                          Science sure is fun!

Rainy day art

With all of the rainy weather we've had, I got the art shelf stocked up with some new items.  This morning the children asked if they could stay in and do art a little longer and not have any time outside to play before the bus.  They finished their art and even helped me clean everything up, and then we went to the bus.  Look at what they made...

I think this yellow one had some pinecones on the end before it was moved to the table to dry.  I loved listening to the younger brother tell his older brother that if he just left the pinecones on the glue they would dry by the time they got back from school!
Younger brother was right.  His pine cone is stuck to his art!

A new tunnel and pussy willow art!

Lillian and Anthony and I found a tunnel at a garage sale this weekend.  What fun!

Does anyone know this head?!  It's tricky to get a good
picture - they are fast, and were having so much fun!
                                                              Look at Oden's smile.
Allie was saying, "Where's your head.  Where's your head.  Where's your head."
Bronwynn's Grandma brought in some pussy willows, and the children have really enjoyed them.  I was finally able to convince them to do some art with them.  (They really enjoyed looking at them.)
                                                                          Allie's art.
This is a work in progress; Bronwynn's mom and dad - please take a look at how much more Bronwynn did after I took this picture.  She spent another 20 minutes on it.  She loves art!
                                                             This is Oden's art.
I didn't want to interrupt as I took photos, and Lillian's arm got in my way!

A new Hydro pole

Well, on Tuesday morning there was some excitement at daycare.  We had to replace one of the hydro poles in our yard.  We had a backhoe, a truck and trailer (to move the back hoe) and a boom truck here to greet the children as they came in the morning.  On our walk to the bus, the Hydro trucks came, and they were parked in the driveway.  We had to carefully walk around the Hydro truck, and your children did an amazing job getting off the driveway as trucks drove in and out.  We got to watch a man go up in the boom truck and disconnect some wires.  After snack, we went back outside to watch the backhoe dig a hole for the new pole.  It was an exciting day.  (I didn't get any pictures of the trucks/equipment because I didn't get talking to the owners, and I don't like to put any photos on the internet without permission.)

New sand!

We got a load of new sand for the sand box.  What fun!
 Look at that hole.
 Lots of roads were made.

It's been a busy spot.  I didn't get a chance to get a picture with all the children in it.  Afternoons are busy around here, but there is definitely evidence of their play!

Pine Cones!

A big thank you to Bronwynn and her Grandma for bringing in a big bag of pine cones for us.  The children have enjoyed exploring the pine cones, touching them, playing with them...  This morning we decided to do some pine cone art.  We discovered pine cones are tricky to glue to paper, but if you are patient they will stick. Here are what the children made...

We had another picnic snack on Monday morning!  It's getting harder to get the children to come in at all in this nice weather!
One of the older children made a pool with a slide and hot tub.  I think it was at a hotel that she got her inspiration, so she included a parking lot here!

Feild Trip to the school!

Wow, what a fantastic day.  Here's our surprise; we had a wonderful walk over to the school, and lots of fun on this beautiful day.  The pictures speak for themselves...

They are working at the canteen.  They had chicken, and of course freezies!

Oden and Tina biked over to meet us!
Here's a glimpse of our picnic yesterday morning!
