Making apple cake!

Lillian and Anthony's Grandma lent us her apple peeler, corer and slicer.  We used some of the apples we picked last week and made a cake for snack tomorrow afternoon.  The children enjoyed peeling the apples by themselves.  Great way to get them involved.

We took turns measuring, pouring and stirring, and are excited to try our cake!

Sticky Leaves

I taped mac tac to the wall sticky side out and cut some leaves and hearts out of foam.  The girls had a blast sticking the leaves and hearts to the paper.  They experimented with sticking the leaves on the wall (that didn't work), sticking their hands, blocks and paper to the mac tac.  Great fun.  I am hoping to see some patterns after school when the older children arrive.
The boys were busy with their trucks.  I couldn't help but think of AJ's dad fixing equipment as I watched AJ turn the dump truck over, and watch as he spun the wheels!

Apple Picking

What a beautiful morning to go apple picking.  We spent an extra hour outside this morning picking apples, and walking through the field.

This old tree has a hole all the way through the trunk.  I'm not sure how, but it IS producing apples this year.  The children had a great time dropping apples into the hole and taking them out on the bottom.  This is Wyatt's hand from the other side of the tree!

What a wonderful way to spend the morning!

Sorting and Patterning.

We used our fall pattern cards and counters this morning.  (That's what Lillian is doing in this picture.)  Then I decided to reuse all of our old crayons.  I removed the paper and began sorting them in a muffin tin.  I, of course, then got helpers!  Allie spent a long time helping me sort.  Sol, Bronwynn, and Lillian also helped.  They did a great job sorting them with the right colours.  This is a fantastic pre-math skill that we ended up practicing by accident!
I carefully melted the crayons in the oven and now we have new chunky crayons that are easy for the youngest children to pick up and colour with!

Morning walk!

We extended our morning walk from the end of our driveway to the township office.  The girls were so excited to get balloons!  The also got Canada Flags this time!  A.J. had a nap in the stroller!
I thought while I was on here, I'd show you the pie that Bronwynn made for Lillian yesterday.  I was so impressed by how much effort she put into it, and then she wanted to give it to her friend:)

Bubble Painting!

We added paint to bubble juice and blew through a straw!  What fun!

The boys played with the dump truck and tow truck a lot this morning!

Wait a minute... A.J., didn't I put you down on your belly?  When did you learn to sit up yourself?

Apple Painting!

After the bus this morning, we took a walk into the 'apple orchard' behind the house.  Each child got to pick an apple for art.  We cut the apples in half and talked about the shape we saw inside.  Ask your children, and see if they remember!  We had a great time dipping them in paint and stamping onto our paper.

Anthony created this and asked me to take a picture and put it on the blog.

Our last summer picnic???

What a beautiful morning.  We decided to stay outside a little longer this morning, and have our snack outside.  A.J. had a wonderful nap in the stroller while Sol, Allie, Bronwynn and Lillian had their snack on the porch.  Then we played on the swing set and sandbox before heading in for circle time.  The children are really enjoying all of my school stories and the song The Wheels on the Bus!  Wonder if this will be our last summer picnic?

New faces, smiling faces!

Welcome, Andrew James (A.J.), we are so excited to have you in day care!

Bronwynn sure is proud of her cousin!

We got a kitten!

We got a new kitten, Holly Cow Briscoe.  The children really enjoy seeing her.
She is still quite timid, and hides from the children.  She is very young (we think maybe 4 weeks), so she is living in our spare bedroom right now.  When she gets a little older, I am sure she will come to the door so you can all meet her.  (If you are a cat lover, and want to meet her sooner, you are more than welcome to see her anytime.  I'm sure your child(ren) would love to show you!)
The children are playing with Holly's balls, trying to coax her out from under the shelf!
