There was a small hole in the sandbox this morning, and it reminded me of the story Murmel, Murmel, Murmel by Robert Munsch where a 6 year old girl finds a baby in a hole in her sandbox. In our story, a 5 year old boy found the hole. Anthony and I decided to stick a stick into the hole, and it went in for quite a piece, so we started digging. When I thought that maybe there was nothing in there, Anthony screamed, "AHHH, MOM!" He had pulled this little creature up out of the hole! There was another one that we could see, but it quickly disappeared. Anthony's scream got the attention of the hole gang, so we watched this little guy for a few minutes. His eyes were still shut, so he is very new. Then we put him back in the hole, and left him alone. He quickly moved out of sight too.
There are always a lot of leaves in our sandbox in the spring. I'm not sure if mama built this nest or just got lucky and dug down to some old leaves. It was a tiny hole at the corner of the sandbox, but this is what Anthony's hole looked like. The nest is at the bottom off to the right a little bit.
Sol's Dad was going to bring in some musical instruments today (he had an appointment, so we'll do it next Thursday). We got some of ours out in anticipation. Thanks Noah, Allie, Anthony and Lillian for sharing your instruments with everyone!
Bronwynn and Sol are jamming while the others do art!
Look at these two Mickey Mouse boys! Wonder if they are the uncles of that rodent we found in the sandbox?!!
